Learn more about Gas Sumps
Gas Sump Pumps
Gas sumps are designed to collect and safely remove radon gas from homes. They form an important part of a gas system along with gas barrier membranes. Once the harmful ground gas is collected in the specially designed sump, it is safely ventilated away from the property via pipework. Suitable for basements and subterranean spaces, these sumps are easy to install in the floor.
You have two main options when it comes to gas sumps:
- Active gas sump: powered by an electric fan, these active gas sumps safely deal with even the highest radon levels.
- Passive gas sump: ideal for homes with lower radon levels, these work by using the differentiation in pressure between inside and outside to encourage air flow
Radon sump systems
At Permagard, we stock the Radbar Radon Sump which is suitable for use in both active and passive systems.
- Radbar Radon Sump - a reliable prefabricated plastic unit that effectively collects and then allows for ventilation of radon
Installation
Gas sumps are located in a pit in the floor slab. Once in position, 110mm pipework is installed into the outlet. This pipe will need to pass through the external wall and eventually run up the side of the property to roof level.
