Masonry Protection Cream
Microshield Ultra is a water-based masonry waterproofing cream that provides long-lasting and reliable water repellency to mineral surfaces such as brickwork and porous natural stone. It offers comprehensive protection against structural damage caused by water and moisture, spanning everything from spalling to efflorescence to moss and lichen growth.
As a professional product, it contains a high concentration of organically modified silane and siloxane that penetrate deep into the substrate (up to 13mm in brick). These active ingredients line the pores of the building material with silicone, creating a durable bond without blocking the pores completely. This prevents water from wetting the material while maintaining water-vapour permeability and overall ‘breathability’.
Microshield Ultra’s cream consistency means that it stays in contact longer with the substrate without run off, allowing for deep penetration. This imparts a beading effect and protects mineral surfaces for longer, dramatically reducing maintenance and repair costs.

Beading Effect
A strong beading effect will develop on the mineral surface within 7 to 10 days of treatment. The beading effect lasts between 2-3 years depending on the substrate condition and exposure to weather conditions. Water simply beads and runs off once Microshield Ultra has been applied, helping maintain the building material’s natural moisture balance.
Improved Thermal Performance
Damp facades have reduced insulating capacity which leads to increased heat loss - just 4% humidity in the masonry decreases the insulating capacity to 50%. Surfaces treated with Microshield Ultra have a reduced water uptake by at least 80% therefore keeping the thermal performance of the wall at a permanent high level, saving the occupants energy and money as well as improving the indoor environment.

How to apply Masonry Protection Cream
Microshield Ultra is designed for easy and effective application at scale.
Preparation
The mineral surfaces must be in sound condition with any structural defects resolved, including cracks, cracked joints, defective connections, rising damp and hygroscopic moisture. The surface should also be dry and free from dust, dirt, moss and algae.
Any contaminated substrates should be cleaned in conjunction with BS 8221-1:2012. It is important when cleaning the substrate not to use detergents as these can interfere with the hydrophobic effect of Microshield Ultra.
We recommend testing a small, representative area to ensure Microshield Ultra is not repelled and that the finished surface appearance is as expected.
Applying Microshield Ultra
Microshield Ultra Cream can be applied in a single-step by roller, brush or airless spraying equipment at a rate of 0.2l/m². A single application of Microshield Ultra at this rate is generally sufficient to provide outstanding masonry protection.
Due to its creamy consistency, you can simply apply the masonry waterproofing cream onto walls and overhangs without any dripping or run-off loss. The milky-white cream disappears without leaving any residue on the surface within one hour.
After approximately two hours (@20°C) the application is resistant to light rain (this will be extended for colder conditions). The water beading effect will develop within seven days of treatment. Microshield Ultra is able to withstand even extreme weather conditions without impacting its performance.
Microshield Ultra should not be applied in cold conditions or when rain is expected within 24 hours.
Note: Temperature of the material, air and substrate: from min. +5 °C to max. +25 °C for a minimum of 24 hours.

Microshield Ultra can significantly help slow the passage of floodwater through the masonry of a building. It is therefore an integral part of any flood resistance and flood resilience system, allowing the wall to dry out after flood events. The recommended application is to at least 600mm.
