Exterior Masonry Water Repellent
MicroShield Masonry Water Repellent offers fast-acting protection against penetrating damp on exterior surfaces. This professional water-based product can be used on masonry, brick, concrete, natural and reconstituted stone. MicroShield is based on silanes and siloxanes, providing reliable protection for properties.
MicroShield is safe and easy to apply by brush, roller or spray. It air cures rapidly even at near-zero temperatures, making it an efficient solution. When dry, it provides a colourless, microporous layer that is highly water-shedding and water-repelling. MicroShield provides full protection against driving rain and the effects of penetrating damp.

Uses
MicroShield can be used on the following exterior surfaces and in a range of scenarios:
- External walls made of porous brick, clinker, natural stone, sandstone, mortars, mineral render, concrete (new and old), limestone, cement render finish. Walls need to be sound and free from cracks and pointing defects.
- Concrete floors – cement screed or concrete floors can be treated to consolidate and bind friable, porous surfaces and produce a dust-free, breathable microporous seal.
- Any new or repaired cementitious surface. These can be treated and waterproofed immediately once the structure is cured and hard.
Unlike traditional solvent-based silicone fluids, MicroShield can be applied onto fresh, cured, highly alkaline, cement-based surfaces, whether dry or damp.
Important note: MicroShield Professional Masonry Water Repellent is not suitable for wet, green uncured cements/concrete, or as a DPC layer.
Benefits of Microshield
Microshield Masonry Water Repellent is a professional product used widely across the damp proofing and waterproofing industry. It offers a wide range of benefits:
- A truly one-coat system that is quick and convenient to apply
- Water-based and non-hazardous solution
- Brushes, rollers and spray equipment can be rinsed out with water (Note: Clean brushes etc immediately after use, do not allow to dry out, cured product is not water-soluble)
- Solvent-free and non-flammable repellent means no fire risks and no hazardous solvent vapours or fumes.
- Not affected by the highly alkaline content of fresh new cement so can be used as soon as the concrete is cured (3-5 days)
- The microporous nature of the treatment means it dries out rapidly and allows the surface to breathe.
Applying Microshield
Microshield is quick and easy to apply. Follow these simple instructions:
Preparation:
- Start by making sure surfaces are free from oil, grease, dust or paint layers so it can absorb the MicroShield fluid. Test a small, representative area to ensure the product is not repelled and also that the dry-finished surface appearance is acceptable.
- Repair all significant cracks, fissures and faulty pointing on horizontal or vertical surfaces prior to applying the masonry water repellent.
- MicroShield is difficult to remove once dry. We recommend masking off all sensitive areas before spraying such as windows, painted surfaces and decorative metal work. Ensure any vehicles, garden furniture, plants etc are protected or moved to a safe distance whilst treatment is carried out.
Application:
Note: Whilst this product can be applied by masonry roller, we highly recommend that it is applied by a suitable sprayer for ease.
Give the container a quick shake before decanting into a suitable sprayer or roller tray.
We recommend starting at the highest part of the wall. Apply in a horizontal direction across the wall until the surface refuses the MicroShield fluid. When the product starts to run down the wall, continue the application in a horizontal motion following the fluid down the wall. Make sure the whole wall is evenly covered. Allow to dry fully.
A thorough, evenly-applied single coat is all that is required to protect the masonry.
Important note: Do not use/apply if temperatures below 5°C or above 25°C are expected.
