Easi-Fix Helical Resin Wall Ties (100)
Resin Wall Ties
The Permagard Easi-Fix Helical resin cavity wall ties are specifically designed to re-tie cavity walls where a resin fix is required at both ends. The ties are pushed into pilot holes that have been pre-filled with resin. When the resin sets, the two leaves are bonded and stability is restored to the cavity walls.
These remedial wall ties are made from austenitic stainless steel grade 304 and are 4.5mmΦ. The wall ties are available in different lengths to accommodate different widths of cavity. They are also designed to deal with building movement and temperature fluctuation.
Resin Wall Ties Uses
These resin wall ties should be installed into existing cavity walls to re-tie the leaves together where the existing wall ties have failed. They can be used in almost all building materials including brick, lightweight block, timber frames and even mortar. They are ideally suited for use when the quality of the inner and outer leaf substrates are in doubt. Resin fix ties are suitable when mechanical expanders are unusable.
Note: These ties are not suitable for use in cavity walls where the cavity is filled with loose insulating fibre or styrene material.
Installing Resin Wall Ties
Follow these instructions for installing resin wall ties in order to re-tie cavity walls:
Step 1: Drill a 10mm clearance hole through the outer leaf into the inner leaf material until the recommended depth (70mm) is reached. You should then check that the drill hole avoids frogs (an indentation in the brick’s bed surface) and core holes in the brick if present.
Step 2: Clean inner and outer hole of debris using air pump or pneumatic air jet.
Step 3: Once completely clean fill the inner leaf with fixing resin.
Step 4: Insert the Easi-Fix Helical Resin Tie into the resin making sure the end of the tie is approximately 25mm from the outer face of the outer leaf.
Step 5: Once the resin is fully cured (see manufacturer data sheet), you can test the fixing strength of the tie with a pull tester.
Step 6: Fill the outer leaf with resin allowing the resin to flow along the fins of the tie. Either fill to the surface or if a colour match is required leave the resin recessed and fill with a matching coloured mortar.
Minimum Tie Spacing
Ties should be at 900mm centres horizontally by 450mm vertically in a staggered pattern (2.5 ties per m2), or as specified. You should also follow a tie density of 2.5 ties to every square metre.
